Coming from a cold climate, I was told that a few generations ago, citrus fruit was something to show off with…. there was a great aunt in the family it seems, that would display oranges at Christmas, without offering any (as they were “not yet ripe” she’d explain)….. I have an uncle who said that as a visitor, he’d wanted the oranges so badly he’d have enjoyed them just as fully had he eaten one WITH the peel…..

Although they’re no longer a rarity, oranges in a Christmas stocking have always been a holiday staple for me and a plate of clementines- especially with their leaves, just plain pretty 🙂
